I was stationed in Seoul, South Korea from August 2001 to
November 2004. I was stationed in one of the "better" places in Korea. Korea has
a lot of history and is very beautiful from the air. It was difficult to get
through the language barrier and getting around town. Learning the subway
system made getting around much easier. Shopping is everywhere and good deals
are everywhere, especially if you haggle with the prices. We went around
and saw all kinds of temples, tombs, and palaces. You can see military pictures
of Korea in the Army Photos section of this site.

Namsam Tower (aka. Seoul Tower) was right behind Yongsan Garrison and I took this photo as I was waiting in traffic leaving North Post.
This was taken from the helicopter of Seoul south of the Han River
This is also the southern part of Seoul, the part where the Olympic Games were held in 1988.
This is a veiw of Seoul to the east. This bridge has a metal statue on the top of it. As I was outprocessing Ft.Rucker before going to Korea, I saw on the news a Korean Chinook Helicopter was hovering near this statue (for repairs I think). Well the helicopter crew settled in their hover and collided with the statue and crashed on the bridge below. A month later I was flying over the same bridge.
Shop during the day and party during the night. This place never seemed "not busy." The only time you would see it dead was if you were up after "curfew." Don't ask me how I know!
I was experimenting with my new digital camera and took these photos right around the corner from my apartment. I also took the picture Stop and Go at the same time.

While I was taking pictures I decided to get some of the Seoul Tower. I was just starting to get the hang of these types of pictures when it began to rain and I was still a mile from my apartment with my new digital camera...I ran home.
During a trip to the Korean War Museum we saw Korean Soldiers training out front. I got this picture of a Korean Officer watching over the training.
Saw this view of the Seoul Tower fom the Korean War Museum and had to take the picture.
This is Changdeokgung Palace, the residence of one of Korea's Emperors, centuries ago.
Changdeokgung Palace still employs guards to guard the entrance to the palace. However now it is just for show, but they do wear the original style uniforms.
This was a building in Changdeokgung Palace. I can't remember if it was a temple or a sleeping quarter.
This was a walk way to a gate at the Changdeokgung Palace.
This is a picture of the Changdeokgung Palace Courtyard with a tree growing in the corner.
In the Changdeokgung Palace, there was a garden called Huwon Garden (aka. The Secret Garden) and I took this picture of a Gazebo in the Garden.
The mound behind the temple is a tomb for a Korean Emperor. It had a temple next to it with a walkway to this gate. Donna is standing at the temple.
At the Jeongneung Tombs, all of them had these statues as "eternal" guards of the tombs.
